Permanent eyebrows before and after on a mature client with sparse brows and deep lines

Permanent Eyebrows

From $550

Ladies, toss your pencils. If your brows have thinned out, gone patchy, or never fully recovered from the plucking of the 1990s, this is the end of drawing on two eyebrows every morning and hoping they come out related to each other.

For over 20 years we have specialised in, and genuinely enjoyed, creating beautiful brows with the SofTap® hand method. Mature skin is its own discipline. It is thinner, drier and uneven in texture, and it will take pigment beautifully in one spot and stubbornly refuse it an inch away.

Three approaches, often combined:

  • Soft Fill: a soft, powdered, filled-in brow
  • Ombre Brows: a lighter colour at the front of the brow, going a bit darker towards the tail
  • Combination: hairstrokes through the front, soft fill through the tail

The shape is created to your bone structure and kept sitting on the brow bone, and the colour is custom mixed for your skin on the day. We decide all of it together at your free consultation before anything is booked.

Permanent eyeliner before and after, close up on hooded mature eyelids

Permanent Eyeliner

From $350

A quiet relief if you are allergic to conventional cosmetics, wear contacts, have eyes that water at the first sign of wind, or have hands that are simply not as steady as they were at thirty.

Varied effects can be achieved: smudgy, soft, defined or dramatic. It is your look, your call.

Every eyeliner procedure includes an eyelash enhancement. The colour is placed in the lash line itself, so you never end up with a floating eyeliner, and your lashes look thicker at the base.
Permanent lip liner before and after, a faded lip border redefined on mature skin

Permanent Lip Liner

From $450

The lip border is one of the first things to go quietly missing. It softens, the colour cools and thins, and lipstick starts wandering off into the fine lines around your mouth. Lip liner puts the edge back and gives the colour something to hold on to.

Permanent lip colour can:

  • Redefine a lip border that has faded with the years
  • Correct asymmetry
  • Add definition and fullness
  • Warm up colour that has gone pale or bluish
If you have a history of fever blisters, cold sores or mouth ulcers, an anti-viral prescription is required before any lip procedure. We will go through this at your consultation.
Brow correction before and after, hard dark tattooed brows softened into a natural shape

Touch-Ups & Corrective Treatments

From $250

These are two different appointments, and the difference matters, so here it is plainly.

Maintenance touch-up or colour boost, $250

This is for clients whose brows, liner or lips Karen did herself. She already has your file: the exact pigments she mixed, the stylus she used, how your skin healed last time. That means she is refreshing known work rather than solving a puzzle, and the price reflects it. Includes both appointments.

Correction of previous work, $450

This is not a touch-up, and it is the part most people are surprised by. If someone else did the original work, Karen cannot simply go over it. She starts from scratch: a new shape designed around your face, a new colour mixed to counteract whatever the old pigment has turned, and a decision about which styluses will work on skin that has already been worked on once. It takes longer and it takes more skill than starting with a blank brow. Includes both appointments.

Brows that turned grey, orange or faintly reddish. Shapes drawn too high, too dark, or too permanently surprised. Work that healed on one side and not the other. Correction is a big part of what we do, and after 20 years there is very little Karen has not already seen, so please do not be embarrassed about it.

Is permanent make-up really permanent? Technically yes, the colour is implanted into the epidermal layer. But natural fading does occur, and touch-ups are usually needed in 1.5 to 3 years. The sun is the greatest villain to fading colour, so always use an SPF sunblock of at least 30, or wear sunglasses or a hat.

Tip: for eyebrows, keep an SPF lip balm tube handy and simply wipe it over your brows before sun exposure. Quick, easy, and it protects your results.

As you get older, the colour will slowly fade and soften. The pigment is always there, just gentler. We strongly recommend SPF 30+ on any pigmented area. The advantage of slow fading is that as skin tone changes you may actually prefer a softer colour than the one you wanted a few years ago. If you would like it richer again, come in for a maintenance colour enhancement.

Why We Do Not Offer Microblading

People usually arrive asking for microblading, because it is the word everybody knows. Fair enough. Here is what it actually is, and why after more than 20 years we still choose something different for the women who come to us.

Microblading uses a small handheld blade to cut fine hairstroke lines into the skin and lay pigment into those cuts. On the right skin it can look lovely. The catch is that it is a cutting technique, and skin that is thin, dry, oily or mature does not always heal the way a crisp cut line needs it to. Those neat little hairstrokes will blur and spread as they settle, which is how a brow ends up looking less like hair and more like a smudge. Microblading can cause scarring, and it can only be done a few times before all the colour blends in and becomes a powder brow in the end anyway. We want to make sure you know the truth of what you think you are getting, and what you will eventually end up with.

The SofTap® hand method does not cut anything. Pigment is tapped into the skin by hand with a disposable stylus, rather than a slice. It is gentler, it causes far less trauma, and it hands the artist complete control over how much colour goes exactly where. For skin over 40, which is most of who walks through the door, that control is the whole game.

The SofTap® hand method

  • Pigment tapped in by hand, no cutting
  • Minimal trauma to thin or delicate skin
  • Complete control over colour density
  • Softer, more forgiving healed result
  • No motor, no noise, no vibration
  • Single-use stylus tips, disposed of after every client

Microblading

  • A blade cuts hairstroke lines into the skin
  • Results depend heavily on skin type
  • Strokes will blur and spread into each other, so not an ideal option for mature or oily skin, and can cause scarring over multiple procedures
  • Generally semi-permanent, so it needs redoing sooner
  • Widely offered, and quality varies a great deal between artists

None of this is a dig at artists who microblade well. It is simply the method we have chosen after two decades of watching how different skin actually heals.

The SofTap® Hand Stylus System

For the most reliable and best results we use SofTap™ pigments and the disposable hand stylus system, together with the Genuline system for hairstrokes.

SofTap™ is the easiest and gentlest way to implant micropigment colour into the skin. The system is designed to provide maximum comfort, fast healing, complete control, and little or no touch-ups.

Traditional tattoo coil machines and rotary or digital tools cause more trauma to the skin, make loud buzzing noises, and give the technician far less control over exactly where the colour is deposited.

The SofTap™ method means minimal swelling and no or minimal bleeding. Topical anaesthetics are applied to pre-numb the area first, and then we numb as we go, for greater ease and comfort.

  • GentleA soft tap on top of the skin, virtually painless
  • QuietNo motors, no buzzing, no moving parts
  • HygienicEvery stylus tip is single-use and safely disposed of
  • ComfortableSeven different topical anaesthetics on hand
