At your consultation Karen draws the shape on you and mixes a custom colour on your skin, so you can look in the mirror and see it on your own face before anything is permanent. Nothing is tattooed that day. You go home, live with it for a bit, and change your mind as many times as you like.

Plenty of clients book the procedure straight away, and that is absolutely fine. The consultation still happens, it simply happens at the start of that appointment instead of on a separate day. If travel or time makes two visits awkward, just say so when you book.

On average, each permanent make-up procedure takes 1½ to 2½ hours depending on the procedure. Follow-up appointments usually take a little less time.

Technically they are considered permanent, because the pigment cannot be washed off. However, fading can and does occur. Regular maintenance or colour refresh appointments are needed every 1 to 5 years, depending on your skin, your sun protection, the products you use on your face and the colour you started with. Lighter colours fade sooner.

UV exposure, certain medications and dry skin all affect longevity. Alpha-hydroxy, Retin-A and glycolic acid will damage treated areas. Sunblock, sunglasses and consistent SPF protection noticeably extend your results.

The colours will slowly fade over time. You will still have colour. The pigment is always there, just softer. We strongly recommend a sunblock of at least SPF 30 on any pigmented area.

The advantage of slow fading is that as you age you may actually want the colour softer than it was a few years ago. If you would prefer it richer, you can come in for a maintenance colour enhancement.
